Window Maintenance Services

Window maintenance services are a great way to keep your windows long lasting and to improve their wear and tear. You can call on professional services to weather proof your windows or winterize them. There are many things you can do to improve the lifespan of your windows. With regular window maintenance you can prepare your home for anything. The first thing you can do is to prepare for winter. You can check the air tight nature of your windows before winter by holding a lit match near the edge of your window on a windy day. If the match is blown out and the smoke flutters around then you need to weather strip your windows because they are not air tight. You should make sure to do this quickly because as the temperatures drop the adhesiveness of the weather stripping will be less sticky.

The second thing you can do to maintain reliable windows is to weather proof your windows. If your home is particularly drafty you can cut back on your energy bills and heating costs by getting clear plastic covers for your windows. You can install these on the inside of your window or the outside. If you are installing the seals on the outside of your window all you have to do is nail down the covers over your windows to create dead air insulation. If you are weather proofing the windows from the inside you tape the edges of the cover to the window and use a hair dryer to shrink the plastic over the windows in a seal. You should remember when doing this that is the tape is loosened at all you will have to start over. This means you should not open the windows during winter if you install these covers or you will have to reapply new covers once they are broken.

If you live in a warm area or have hot summers you can stop the sun from shining into your home and heating up your room by applying coatings on the windows which reflect sunlight. This will keep the rooms cooler. You can also install white blinds or window shades which will naturally reflect the heat from your house. You can keep your curtains closed on the south and the west during the day and perhaps install awnings over these windows. You can also apply a reflective film on the windows to reduce the sun and its heat.
